Soul
Self-knowledge, or the experience of the 'subject of universal life' is an important factor in human life. What is the universe and how can it be understood? The universe is so large that it can never be experienced in a human lifetime. Therefore, if I want to know this universe then I would have to know first of all my Soul, because the Soul is the foundation of the universe. 'S' for Subject, 'O' for 'Of', 'U' for 'Universal'. and 'L' for Life - thus the knowledge of Soul is in itself the universal knowledge.
If I want to know the universe then I must know mysteries of the Soul. The entire universe depends on the Soul-force, the cosmic matrix, because the workings of the universe mirror the working of the Soul. Now the question arises, can I experience this Soul? The answer is that this knowledge is received from the spiritual teacher. The Master reveals to a devotee what the soul is. The Soul is universal power, due to which the whole universe is functioning. Now the point is how to actually experience soul? And how to get that spiritual experience? In order to achieve it we need to go beyond the physical organs and when we do that then automatically we can experience the soul.
As the soul is functioning in the whole universe, knowing the secrets of the universe depends on knowledge of soul. The soul power can be experienced and understood. This is very simple, because soul is within us and we can readily know something which is within us. Therefore, the 'subject of universal life' depends on soul. And soul is within us, so first of all we must understand the mystery of soul. If we can understand it then we will know the whole mystery of the universe.
